Uncommon lady Bahirawa Image at Thivanka Image House Polonnaruwa
This is Uncommon lady Bahirawa Image at Thivanka Image House Polonnaruwa.
Thivanka Image House Polonnaruwa is believed to be the ancient Jethavanarama temple. This was named as Thivanka Image House by Prof. Paranavitana, and he expresses that such a great creation is not to be found in any other part of the world. It is 67 feet in length and 23 feet in width with thick walls. The brick built roof has been dilapidated. Thivanka Image means an image with three flexions ( at the knee, waist and the neck)
The influences of Hindu and Mahayana can be seen at Tivanka to a great extent. On the outside walls of the building are figures of dwarfes, gods, deities, Niganta Bodhisatva, Swans, lions and also lotus designs.
