Sri Lanka is a tropical island in the Indian ocean and as a result there are lots of beautiful birds living in the country. Apart from the local birds many migrant birds too are found in the country.
The Arangaya, Lankasalalihiniya, Watharathu malkoha, are just a few of the local birds. Some of the migrant birds are herons, storks, egrets, swallows flemingoes and orioles.
Most of these birds live near the water. Lagoons, grassland and small forest are also their holiday resorts. The local birds live in the country, everyday. But the migrant birds live only for a short time, mostly from October onwards.
The migrants birds arrive in Sri Lanka to get away from winter. By the end of March they fly back to their homeland. ![]()
