The first prime Minister of Independent Sri Lanka, or Ceylon as if was D.S Senanayake. He was also known as the Father of the Nation. Don Stephen Senanayake was born on October 20,1884 in Botale, Meerigama. His father was Spator Senanayake and mother , Kehelelle Catherine Elizabeth Perera Gunasekera. |

Ven.Kudahapola Thera played an important role in the Matale rebellion against British rule in1848. He was born at Kudahapola, a small village on the Narammala Kuliyapitiya bus route. During the rebellion he lived in a temple at Kahalla, a hamlet close to Kandy. |
